Server instrumentation

Once pgadmin3 and postgresql-contrib both installed, install adminpack (aka Server Instrumentation):

sudo -u postgres psql
# \q


Also install psycopg2 dependencies (for :python / :postgresql integration)

Connection over a network

To allow to connect to the database:


Restart service

sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql reload # simple reload
sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql restart # full restart (required for some postgresql.conf changes)

Independent superuser

For an independent superuser (not linked to current user account):

sudo -u postgres createuser --superuser <USERNAME>
sudo -u postgres psql
# \password <USERNAME>
# \q

You should now be able to log in to pgAdmin III with this user and create databases.
